Day 1: Thursday, November 12
We venture northeast to Sugarcreek, Ohio, and check into the Carlisle Inn Sugarcreek for our three-night stay. The Inn is known for its serene country views and classic Amish Country hospitality. We walk next door to enjoy a hearty, family-style feast at Dutch Valley Restaurant. It’s Carlile Inn Sugarcreek the perfect way to kick off our Amish Country holiday experience. (D)

Day 2: Friday, November 13
We begin our day with a visit to Hershberger’s Farm & Bakery, a favorite stop for freshly baked breads, giant cinnamon rolls and classic Amish pastries. Here we meet our local guide before continuing to Troyer’s Sweet Shop, a charming candy kitchen where we roll up our sleeves and make our own buckeyes to take home. Next, we tour the Millersburg Victorian Mansion, an elegant 28-room historic home showcasing lavish 19th-century architecture, period décor, and festive seasonal displays. We then travel to the Lighted Lantern, an Amish-owned restaurant known for its warm hospitality and homestyle comfort foods. While enjoying lunch on our own, we each make two delicious whoopie pies to bring back with us.
Now, it’s time for some shopping at Hometown Merchants, a delightful collection of locally owned shops offering handcrafted items, décor and gifts. We return to the Inn for a rest before traveling to the home of Anna Erb, where we’re welcomed for an Amish holiday feast. Anna’s home offers an intimate look at Amish life, complete with meaningful conversation, homemade food and beautiful handcrafted items available for purchase. In the evening, we enjoy the Ohio Star Theater, where we take in the Glenn Miller Tribute Orchestra performing some holiday favorites. After the show, we stroll across the parking lot back to the Inn for a restful night. (B, D)

Day 3: Saturday, November 14
We begin the day at the Warther Museum, home to exquisite hand-carved masterpieces created by
Ernest “Mooney” Warther. It all started when Warther lost his father at the age of three, in 1888, forcing him to take his first job at the age of five. It was during that cow-herding job that Ernest earned the nickname “Mooney,” Swiss for ‘bull of the herd,’ which stayed with him for life. But what ultimately changed the course of his life was when he found a pocketknife in the dirt road. He picked it up, started whittling, and never set it down for another 82 years. Although the knife changed over the years, Mooney’s determination, ingenuity, and artistic ability never did. In those 82 years, he would hand-sculpt over sixty works focusing around the steam-engine. The result earned him the
title of the World’s Master Carver. Also, the museum’s Annual Festival Warther Museum of Trees fills the galleries with beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Next door, we explore the Warther Knife Factory and Showroom, famous for its expertly crafted, high-quality knives made right on-site.
Continuing to Walnut Creek Cheese Café, we enjoy this local foodie favorite offering delicious soups, sandwiches, baked goods, and an adjacent market full of Amish-made products. After lunch, we move on to the Walnut Creek Marketplace (Flea Market), a large indoor market where we browse gourmet foods, baked goods, candies, and specialty items—perfect for holiday gifting or enjoying later at home—plus an optional scavenger hunt for added fun. Then, we visit Hans’ Tasting Room, a cozy and inviting spot where we will enjoy a complimentary glass of holiday sangria. Following a short break at the Inn, we head to Farmstead Restaurant, well-known for its hearty Amish buffet loaded with comfort- food favorites. Our evening concludes at the Amish Country Theater, a lively venue featuring family-friendly comedy, music and holiday entertainment, where we enjoy the Christmas in the Country show before returning to the Inn for the night.
