The Rocky Mountaineer Eastbound is a luxury scenic train journey from Vancouver to Banff or Lake Louise through the breathtaking Canadian Rockies. We travel during the day to take in the views, stay overnight in comfortable hotels, enjoy gourmet meals onboard, ride in glass-dome cars, and listen to live narration about the scenery, wildlife, and history along the way.

Day 1: Wednesday, July 28, 2027 – Vancouver, British Columbia
We set out to explore the beautiful Canadian Rockies by train. We arrive today in the vibrant city of Vancouver. We check into our hotel and get settled in. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 2: Thursday, July 29, 2027 – Vancouver
This morning, we ascend Grouse Mountain via an enclosed gondola and enjoy sweeping views in every direction as we have breakfast at the summit. Then, we meet a ranger and visit two rescued grizzly bears. Later, we begin our Vancouver sightseeing tour at Stanley Park, Canada’s renowned urban rainforest. We follow the famous seawall and take in views of mountains, beaches, trails, historic landmarks, and colorful gardens. We continue to Granville Island Public Market to explore its unique stalls featuring handmade crafts and artisan foods. This evening, we enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant. (B, D)

Day 3: Friday, July 30, 2027 – Vancouver to Kamloops (Rocky Mountaineer)
We board the Rocky Mountaineer and begin our awe-inspiring rail journey through some of the world’s most majestic scenery. From our glass-dome coach, we take in views of lush coastal forests, roaring river canyons, and snowcapped peaks. Traveling from Vancouver to Banff, we pass through the fertile Fraser Valley and the towering Coast Mountains. We enjoy spectacular views of the Fraser River and Hell’s Gate before the landscape shifts to a semi-arid desert as we approach Kamloops for our overnight hotel stay. (B, L)

Day 4: Saturday, July 31, 2027 – Kamloops to Lake Louise (Rocky Mountaineer)
We continue east on the Rocky Mountaineer into the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Along this historic rail route, we travel through the Spiral Tunnels and alongside the Kicking Horse River. We cross the Continental Divide and watch for wildlife such as moose, elk, bighorn sheep, and even bears. After another scenic day, we toast our journey before arriving in Lake Louise. We settle into the iconic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, beautifully situated along the lake. Dinner is included at one of the hotel’s exceptional restaurants. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Sunday, August 1, 2027 – Lake Louise to Banff
We enjoy a leisurely morning taking in the stunning turquoise waters of Lake Louise. Then, we set out on a scenic drive through Banff, stopping at Bow Falls and Surprise Corner for incredible photo opportunities. We meet a local ammolite specialist to learn about this rare Alberta gemstone. This afternoon, enjoy free time to explore Banff at your own pace. This evening, we check into the historic Fairmont Banff Springs, known as the “Castle in the Rockies.” (B)

Day 6: Monday, August 2, 2027 – Banff / Icefields Parkway / Banff
Today we travel along the spectacular Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic drives in the world. We take in waterfalls, glaciers, rivers, and dramatic mountain landscapes. At Athabasca Glacier, we choose between a ride across the glacier or a walk along the Columbia Icefield Skywalk for breathtaking views. We also stop at Bow Lake and Peyto Lake for photos and short walks. This evening, we enjoy dinner together. (B, D)

Day 7: Tuesday, August 3, 2027 – Banff to Calgary
We enjoy a relaxed morning in Banff before traveling to Calgary. Along the way, we visit Cave and Basin National Historic Site, the birthplace of Canada’s national park system. Tonight, we gather for a farewell dinner to celebrate our unforgettable journey. (B, D)

Day 8: Wednesday, August 4, 2027 – Calgary / Tour Ends
Our adventure comes to a close today, leaving us with lasting memories of our extraordinary journey through the Canadian Rockies. (B)

The overall activity level of this tour is a level 2 (out of 4). This means you like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. Expect some full days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet. While this level is appropriate for travelers that require mobility assistance devices, there could be times when you may have to sit out on some of the included activities.

A scenic ferry crossing transports you to Vancouver Island to visit the incomparable and lovely Butchart Gardens. Set on over 55 acres, Butchart Gardens are among the world’s most beautiful and are a veritable explosion of color and fragrances. Then, take a short sightseeing tour of the “City of Gardens,” Victoria, and enjoy leisure time to explore this charming seaside city. This evening, you will journey back to the mainland via a short ferry ride. This option is operated by a local representative and requires a pre-night hotel stay in Vancouver. This option is not available on the reverse itinerary ending in Vancouver.
